1830
Industrial Revolution
Belgium was part of the early industrialized nations after Britain, where the industrial revolution started. People mainly chose to focus on industrial exports at that time. Popular exports were coal, iron, diamond, tobacco, etc.

1850
Belgium Treaty
A treaty of commerce and navigation with Bolivia was signed in Brussels. Meaning that Belgium and Bolivia chose to exchange goods and services, increasing their nation’s growth. Safe travels throughout both countries would also prove worthwhile, ensuring security and protection.

1870
The Royal Theatre of La Monnaie
La Monnaie de munt had its first stage performance in French. The national opera house played a romantic opera named Lohengrin a story taken from medieval German romance.

1890
Belgian National Day
The national holiday was created to celebrate the anniversary of Leopold I as the very first king of Belgium.

2010
